We all go through times in our lives where we don’t know how to deal with what we are facing – counselling can help.
Counselling is essentially a series of structured therapeutic conversations between a therapist and a client. As a counsellor I am here to listen, to reflect and to sit with your difficult emotions. I will always empathise with you and be respectful of your unique life, history and self.
People come to counselling for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes they’ve been or are going through a difficult or traumatic experience, maybe they are struggling with the relationships in their lives, or perhaps they are finding it hard to cope with their feelings of anxiety, depression or low self-esteem.
There are many different kinds of psychotherapeutic counselling, all of which aim to help people overcome stress or emotional problems.
Whatever has prompted you to seek support the technique I use does not involve you analysing painful memories from the past. The type of psychotherapeutic counselling that I practise is called Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). As the name suggests we focus on solutions for the future, rather than analysing problems of the past. Provided you are willing to make changes to the way you think, the therapy can be highly effective in relieving the symptoms of anxiety and stress. Focusing on solutions means that we do not dwell on problems. Instead we acknowledge where you are currently, identify where you want to be, and help you to make the necessary changes and help you to where you want to be.
