What is high blood pressure?
Your blood pressure is a measure of the pressure in your arteries as your heart pumps blood around your body. It naturally changes throughout the day, depending on your emotional state and physical activity levels, but when it stays consistently too high over time it is known as high blood pressure or ‘hypertension’, which literally means ‘over pressure’.
High blood pressure accounts for 20-25% of all deaths worldwide and affects approximately one in three people worldwide. That’s over 16 million people in the UK. Unfortunately, in 90% of cases of high blood pressure (primary hypertension) there is no single clear cause, although many factors to do with your lifestyle may contribute to primary hypertension. These include smoking, obesity, lack of exercise and your diet. Stress can also play a part, leading to emotional, psychological and physical problems, such as high blood pressure and heart disease.
How can hypnotherapy help with high blood pressure?
Hypnotherapy can help you tackle the most common emotional and lifestyle factors that contribute to high blood pressure. Hypnotherapy helps by providing you with the skills and strategies to cope better with stressful situations, helping you to develop a more relaxed attitude towards life. Hypnotherapy can also help you to find the motivation to give up smoking, reduce excess weight, improve your fitness levels and to eat a more healthy diet.
